05 / NETWORKING

The backbone everything else runs on.

Proper home networks — structured cabling, professional WiFi, VLAN segmentation, VPN access. The layer most installers skip, and the one that makes everything else actually work.

What you get with a home & small business networking install.

The features that actually matter day-to-day — not just the spec sheet buzzwords.

WiFi 6/7 everywhere

Mesh WiFi designed to your floor plan, not guessed. Full gigabit speeds in the kitchen, bedrooms, backyard and garage — not just next to the router.

Structured cabling

Cat6A or Cat7 backbones between key rooms. Fibre where distance demands it. The foundation that makes WiFi, CCTV and everything else actually work.

VLAN segmentation

Your IoT devices (smart TVs, vacuums, cameras) stay separate from laptops and phones. If one device is compromised, it can't reach the rest.

Guest & kid networks

Separate WiFi for guests that expires automatically. Kid networks with scheduled access. Parental controls at the network level, not the device.

Remote access VPN

Secure, private access back to your home network from anywhere. Check cameras, files, and NAS — without exposing anything to the public internet.

PoE switching

Power cameras, access points and intercoms over a single network cable. No separate power bricks, no ugly adapters, cleaner installs everywhere.

Who it's for.

The situations where this system makes a real difference.

  • Homes with dead zones & drop-outs

Thick walls, double-brick, upstairs bedrooms — solved properly with wired access points, not another mesh node that makes it worse.

  • Work-from-home households

Prioritised traffic for video calls, static IPs for work VPNs, separate network for kids' gaming so your Zoom doesn't stutter.

  • Smart homes & IoT-heavy setups

30, 50, 100+ connected devices organised cleanly on their own network segment. Better reliability, better security, easier troubleshooting.

  • CCTV & security backbone

Every camera, intercom and alarm panel runs better on a properly designed network. This is the layer most installers skip — and it shows.

Common questions.

My existing NBN router is fine — do I need new gear?+
The NBN router from your ISP is usually the weakest link. Replacing it with a proper router (same connection, better WiFi and security) costs a few hundred dollars and fixes most home network issues on its own.
Do I have to run cables through walls?+
Where possible, yes — cabling is the single biggest upgrade to reliability. But we also do surface-mount runs, conduit, ceiling-space runs and sometimes powerline for awkward homes. We find a tidy path.
What's VLAN and why do I care?+
It's a way to run multiple networks on the same physical gear — home, IoT, guest, CCTV — each isolated. If your smart lightbulb gets hacked, it can't reach your laptop. It's the difference between real security and marketing.
Can you set up a NAS or home server?+
Yes. We can spec, install and configure Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS and custom-built servers. Also Proxmox setups for more advanced users.
Will WiFi 7 really make a difference?+
For most households today, no — WiFi 6 is already overkill for typical devices. WiFi 7 is worth it for dense setups (50+ devices), VR, or if you're future-proofing a new build. We'll advise honestly.
